Suan Chitralada UHT Milk Plant

By the end of 2002, the milk-surplus recurred, leading
the Royal Chitralada Projects to set up a UHT milk plant
to help dairy farmers as well as to demonstrate the
process of manufacturing from fresh milk.

In the operation, raw milk from dairy cooperatives that passed quality
control is kept in the collection tank at 4 degrees Celsius. A thermiser is used
to thermise the milk at about 70 degrees Celsius for 15 seconds and reduce
the temperature down to 4 degrees Celsius. The UHT process starts with the
homogenisation, and increases the temperature of the milk to approximately
138 degrees Celsius for 4 seconds, then reduces it to 25 degrees Celcius.
After that, it is sent to be packed in boxes or plastic bags.

Only whole milk is produced at the Suan Chitralada UHT Milk Plant. UHT milk in boxes can be stored for up to 8 months while the plastic bags can be stored for up to 3 months without refrigeration.
