Wedding Gift Procession (Hae Khan marg) Wedding gift procession is an important part of wedding ceremony of the people in the central plain of early times. After the preliminary discussion about the forthcoming marriage is settled, the grooms party organizes a wedding gift procession to the brides house where the groom enters into the engagement of his future bride. After the engagement comes the pouring of water to sanctify and conclude the wedding ceremony The wedding gift procession ( Khan marg procession ) is usually led by an ensemble of long drums and dancers, dancing in cheerful abandonment. In the procession there are two sets of wedding gift 1. Engagement gifts consists of : The former gift is the set of betel nuts and leaves as used by each Thai household of the past. The latter is the container filled with auspicious items such as paddy, beans, sesame seeds, silver, gold and rose gold leaves and flowers such as bachelor button that symbolize undying love. 2 .Gifts for the brides parents such as silver, gold, jewellies, rings and cash. Upon ariving at the brides house, the procession comes face to face with well-wishers who set up symbolic barricades with tiny silver of golden chains. The gloom on paying syuboic token fees are allowed to pass through and commence the wedding ceremony. |
